    a nod or a beck ??? could you pls explain the meaning of this expression?

    "Not by a nod or a beck did the waiters embarrass him..."

    nod or a beck , this is an idiom means : ready to obey somebody's order. the sentence means that the waiter did obey his order.
    I hope I am right.
