HELP! How to make writing more interesting

    Hi all,

i am writing from England. on Tuesday i have an interview - a 40 minute teaching session for 25 eight year olds on 'How to make writing more interesting'.

    any ideas please?

their school is being demolished this summer and being replaced with a new model. would memories be a good idea?

    any suggestions gratefully recieved.

Re: HELP! How to make writing more interesting

    Hello there rhubarb

I would suggest getting children to associate good memories/experiences, with words/phrases/sentences/paragraphs etc

I.e.- get them to write, or explain through words, their favourite animal, what they like about them, if they have had any pets, if so- what were their names, what were the fond memories etc etc

It doesn't have to be about animals/pets, it can be any topic; tv shows, best friends etc etc

You see- it's all about being creative

Children love experimenting, and, at 8, they are exploring their environment constantly

So I would chose a theme similar, if not the same, as the ones I outlined above

Hope this helps, and let me know how you get on

    Welcome to UE, Rhubarb!

    Maybe:

    1. How would you demolish the school? Which part would you most like to demolish personally?

    2. What will they find under the school, when they've demolished it?

    3. If you were asked to design the new school, what would it look like?

If you could leave one teacher in the building when it is demolished, who would it be and why? (A bit cruel, but it might make for some interesting writing. Kids love and oppportunity to be somewhat subversive. )

If they could be any famous person/celebrity in the world, who would they be and why?
