    Question Main

"There are several criteria that could be considered here. The main of them is..."
I am not sure of the main of them -- should it necessarily be the main criterion is, or is it fine in this form as well?

    Thanks,
    Nyggus

I think it's wrong. I would say 'the main one'.

Agree totally with Tdol - "main of them" is wrong - only main one of them is correct. Could say "chief of them"/"most important of them" and other phrases depending on context.

Main is an adjective and it should be followed by a noun , pronoun etc. , as tdol has already stated : the main one is correct here [ not main one of them!!]

    e.g.:
There are several criteria that could be considered when writing a literary analysis ;the main ones are: themes, character analysis, symbols etc.....
