    Question fly on a plane- fly by plane

    Hi,
    Please tell me if this sentence is OK.
    I was nervous because Id never flown on a plane.

    I'd say that you should avoid saying "fly by plane". Using by sounds awkward to me --- unless you specifically want to differentiate between flying by plane vs flying by helicopter, for example.
    .
    In many cases it's probably redundant to mention plane at all since that would already be understood in the conversation. "I was nervous because I’d never flown before."

    We normally use 'by' to discuss how we went; 'by' describes the mode of transportation and although it's grammatically possible, it doesn't sound natural for this intent, as noted by Philly.

    Tnx for your comments, folks. I do agree, Philly, that strictly speaking, mentioning the plane is redundant. Yet I think people are more likely to say I'd never flown on a plane than just I'd never flown before.
