    Is the analysis based on the theory that the more short words the better?

    With the Fog index, with Lexical Density, word length is irrelevant, so you get two different views.

    I'm not sure of their accuracy, but one looks at the concentration of words, which seems a fairer principle, and the other at word length.

    I'm not sure they measure readability, but they do give clues as to what is going on in the text once you start using them and start to see patterns and changes.
