    Question plainer or simpler?

    Hi,

Could you please tell me if the second sentence is correct or if it would be better to say "following editions... were plainer"?

"The BOHM was an elaborate, even luxurious edition that was to serve as a wedding gift. Following editions, like The Englishwoman’s Cookery Book (1863) or Mrs Beeton’s Dictionary of Every-day Cookery (1865), were simpler."

Thanks a lot (again and again ).

I think it sounds better as 'simpler'.
