    First identify the vowels. There are two kinds: First, AEIOU and the second where two vowels make one vowel sound as in 'ea' (read) 'ie' (believe). 'EI (RECEIVE), oa (coat), ou (thought, cough etc). Having done that divide the word into sounds. Mtilda's given you a good example. There is a lot on syllableson the internet.
