    Hi wml,
    Only *1 and 3 are correct. These are so-called reported questions, and the word order in them is direct.
    Where is Mary? ( a direct question)
    I wonder where Mary is. (a reported question, or maybe indirect question)
    He asks where Mary is. ( a reported question)

    in both examples the first example is correct.
    it is correct that after question words youy have to use question form, but not when these question words are connectors

    Wml,
    You can't have two negatives in a sentence:
    I don't know where it is - If you use 'where is it?' You have two negatives:
    a) I don't and
    b) where is
    This is incorrect
    So you need to say, "I don't know where it is'
    The same holds true for the other sentence.
