    what is the meaning of scapegoat,thorn in the flesh,bear with a sorehead,next of kin and the fairer sex

    'Scapegoat' - a person who is blamed for something by other people, usually unfairly.

    'Thorn in the flesh' - a person or thing who is an irritant.

    'Bear with a sore head' - a person who is irritable, or in a bad mood.

    'Next of kin' - The nearest member of your family.

    'The fairer sex' - Women.

    'Next of kin' can also be used to describe more than one person.

    The nearest members of your family.

    Next of kin has only one connotation I know of: who you want notified when you die.

    I have never heard it used in any other context.
