    in: I feel you need it.

    was: shuold be 'had been', because you said 'for....'.

    drought(n): must be dry(adj).

    2) Jone unwillingly had to reduce the ration to each animal.
    the: ration is a name you have to put (a or the).

    to: I think it should be of.
    This correction is better to be confirmed by an instructor.

    Here's a suggested rewrite of the sentences:
    The animals lacked food because of the long drought.
    Jone reluctantly had to reduce each animal's ration.
