The word get is quite versatile and is used many ways by native speakers. The basic meaning is to acquire, or obtain, but there are a few others.

He got a new car last week.
He acquired a new car. (Now he has a new car.)

I managed to get the wine.
I sought and obtained the wine. Through my actions I came into possession of the wine.

He got really brown on holiday.
He acquired a tan while on holiday.

I got a train from Victoria.
I took a train from Victoria to my destination. I rode the train from Victoria to where I got off.

I didn't get what he said.
I didn't understand what he said.

    We got there late.
    We arrived there late.

Could you get me a drink?
Could you obtain a drink for me? Could you bring me a drink?

    :)

    Default Thank you

    Hi,

thank you, the answers are so simple. I thought I needed to address the questions from a 'tense' perspective.

I think, in my mind, I over complicated the questions.

    Thanks for your help
