Most importantly, you have to be able to sell whatever your product is.
Sales executives should make a good appearance. They should be well-groomed and neat. It's important to display self-confidence and to be able to talk comfortably with just about anyone. Be polite and engaging. Know your product thoroughly and be able to answer any questions about it. Once you've made a sale, keep in contact with the customer to make sure they're satisfied and to see if there is anything else they need. Treat your customers who purchase $10 items with the same courtesy and attention as those who purchase $1,000 items. Be sincere and honest, don't make promises you can't keep.
