Cool caliper, calipers, calliper and callipers...

    Hi,

Is it correct to say that caliper or calipers (one L) are British spellings and calliper or callipers (two L) are US spellings?

No. Both spelling are accepted in US English, but "caliper" is the preferred. I believe the double L version is preferred in BrE.

Thank you, now why does it appear with a "s", in some dictionaries and without a "s" in others? despite they show it in the singular!

The instrument should be the singular "caliper"; two of the instrument is calipers.

Many people use the word in the plural, probably because it has two arms, like scissors.
