    Default is, become & one

I hope you can help. I am trying to work out what the words "is", "become" & "one" are. In the following 2 sentences:-

Many people think grammar IS boring.

It can BECOME ONE of the most interesting things you can study.

Could "is" be an auxillary verb?

I know "become" is a verb, but is it a main verb, primary auxilliary verb or a modal verb. I don't think it is a modal verb as there are only 11 modal verbs and its not one of them.

    "One" has totally confused me.

    Kind regards
    Christine

    Hello,
I cad say that 'is' in that context is an auxiliary verb because 'boring' is a gerund and needs 'is' to be a complete verb.
Become on the other hand is an intransitive verb. It cannot take on an object rather, it takes a complement.
One in that context is a determiner, it can also be called a quantifier. It is a numerical determiner.
I hope I have been of help to you.

I don't think 'boring' is a gerund- it's a present participle functioning as an adjective, so 'is' in that sentence is a copular verb (linking verb).
