    Two good reasons

    Hi,
I’ll quote a song (Sunny Afternoon, the Kinks):
    … help me sail away
Or just give me two good reasons
    Why I ought to stay

I wonder whether two good reasons is set or just incidental. Why not some, one or three? They wouldn’t have changed the rhythm.
Another guess is that it might be too good reasons misheard.
Please help me make it out.
    Thank you.

    Re: Two good reasons

We often say give me 'a good reason', so I suppose he's upping the stakes a bit. He could have said three, but maybe that would have sounded a bit excessive. Are you a Kinks fan?

He wants two good reasons. One is not enough.

There is a simple explanation here. Ray Davies is one of the gods of rock and roll. One doesn't challenge or question the words of the gods; one merely appreciates them.

    Re: Two good reasons

'Give me two good reasons' is a common expression. 'Give me two good reasons why you should stay out late' It is to emphasise that one is not enough. I get it all the time!

Give us two good reasons why we should believe that.

Normally I've only got one, which puts me 'on the spot'

Don't beat around the bush, just tell us, straight up - are you a Kinks fan?
