Default A disregard to Their safety

    Hi All,

I got the following sentence from a grammar book.

'Teenagers often show a reckless disregard to their own safety.'

Can we use a singular object when the subject is plural?

Also, please give me some more examples of this kind.

    Thanks,

    MG.

Yes, that's fine (although I'd prefer 'for' rather than 'to'). Teenagers exhibit a (one) certain type of disregard in this case.

Here are some further examples (I googled them):
    .
Americans share a lack of confidence in the Internet that could have political consequences.
    .
Finally, candidates should demonstrate an interest in participation in the College’s general education offerings.
    .
Doctors of chiropractic have a deep respect for the human body's ability to heal itself without the use of surgery or medication.
