    Default sophisticated/hubs/back-end

Hi, can you help me with these words, I am not sure, if I'll understand them correct:
1)"China must content themselves with less sophisticated back-end work of product development rather than basic research"
sophisticated I think is high-technological development?
    back-end I don't know
2)"The company hopes that its new facility will eventually become one of its three big research hubs"
    Thank you soo much

    Default Re: sophisticated/hubs/back-end

A hub is a centre. Back-end has specific meanings in certain areas, but it normally refers to the less glamorous parts of the project, areas that are necessary but may be miore mundane. For specific uses, see here: Front-end and back-end - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
