The Welsh people -- who have their own language which is much older than English -- have a saying: "Cenedl heb iaith, cenedl heb galon" translates as: "A nation without language is a nation without heart."

Hey, one of my English teacher is Welsh, I'll tell him the idiom, I think he will laugh and be stunned

    Re: english proverb

hello i find some quotes which talk about learning languages :

"The sum of human wisdom is not contained in any one language."

"The direction in which education starts a man will determine his future life."

"Through learning language, we learn about culture.Through learning about culture, we learn respect for others.Through learning respect for others, we can hope for peace."

    peace

    Re: english proverb

I have it on good authority (BBC Languages newsletter) that there is a Czech proverb :

"As long as a language lives, the people will not perish."

The following is not a proverb, but the above quote reminded me
    of this:

‘If we spoke a different language, we would perceive a somewhat

    different world.’ - Ludwig Wittgenstein

    Re: english proverb

"You live a new life for every new language you speak."
"If you know only one language, you live only once"
"The limits of my language are the limits of my universe".
    peace[/quote]

they are just meaningful sentences that seem to be told before..but surely they are about " learning language and necessary of it "..
