    American vs British

    Hello!
    I was having a discussion with some American friends this evening about the expression "she is in hospital" versus "she is in THE hospital". I think the use of "the" is simply the American vernacular. Which is grammatically correct

    Both are correct. I believe you are right that the Americans are more likely to use the.

    British speakers are, IMO,more likely not to use the article.

    It was a typo. Either would be correct, but I would normally leave out the the in the Americans, espcially since I am one.
