    or
    I live on a small street near the station.

    I live on a street near the station, and I see students running in the street trying to catch the train on school days.

    In American English, it is "on". I'm not sure about British English. I seem to remember seeing "in" a street.

    I did an Internet Google, www.google.com, exact search for:

    "Running on the street" 612 listings.

    "Running in the street" 1,710 listings.
