Smile the prononciation of "calm" in American English

The other day, I discussed with my friends about the prononciation of "calm down" in AmE. My friend said that he heard from some movies that the "al" in "calm" is sometimes pronounced like the "aw" in "law". Could you please tell me whether this is the case or not. Thank u.

I think your friend is right....Americans (or even all english speaking people) drop the 'l' and so it sounds like 'aw'

thank you, but I think you misunderstood me.
my question is should the "al" in "calm" be pronounced as the "a" in "father" or as the "aw" in "law".
