Personification is the act of attributing human characteristics to abstract ideas or to animals or to inanimate objects. It is also the act of representing an abstract quality or idea as a person or creature.

The word "personification" can be used to describe the technique of placing human characteristics on concepts, animals, or inanimate objects. It also can be used to describe a person as the embodiment of a concept.

John is the personification of greed.
