    former_latter

You can either watch a new film on DVD or at the cinema; I prefer the ......

    A) latter

    B) former

    C) previous

    D) prior

    E) current

what is the difference between A and B, in terms of grammar, or do you think both are possible answers?

    Thanks in advance

A and B are both possible correct answers. "Latter" in this case would mean that you prefer to watch a new film at the cinema, and "former" means that you prefer to watch it on DVD.

When given a choice of two options, "former" refers to the first choice, and "latter," the second choice.
