    How would we say?

A selection commitee charged a player for his disobiedience and got rid of him from the team. After a year, the player got a chance to play for the same team.He proved that he was a good player. The faces of those, who were against him became dark. That means they felt uncomfortable.

    This is the situation.

In this situation, How could we say?

He(Ganguly) xxxxxxxxxxx them, those who taunted him when he was ignored by the selection board.

    I need a good expression.

    Winston,

It all depends on what you want to express. For this context there are a number of potential emotive responses.

Do you want to say "hate/dispise/loathe them" or "feel sorry for/pity them".

These words are not reaching the point of my view.

    Re: How would we say?

You mean to say that he made them feel uneasy, embarrassed? What about 'disconcerted' or 'embarrassed'? I don't think you want to say 'avenged',do you?

Were they on the committee that banned him from the team? Is so, their faces darkened because Ganguly proved to be a good player; he proved them wrong.

    Re: How would we say?

I'd appreciate an answer from winston because I'm curious to see what the word (or expression) he was looking for was.
He(Ganguly) xxxxxxxxxxx them, those who taunted him when he was ignored by the selection board.
I tried to stick to one word which should fit in where the space is.
