Need advice on a saying, thanks teachers!

    Dear teachers,

I wonder what does "Life is a box of chocolate" mean?
    Please advise, thanks very much.

A box of chocolates is filled with many different kinds of chocolate, from which you may choose. Life is filled with many different options, from which you may choose.

    .
If this is from Forrest Gump, the point is that you can choose from among the chocolates (options), but you don't know what's inside (the result, good or bad) until it has been bitten into (the option has been committed to).
