Default short passage for Year 2 students

This passage is meant for Year 2 students. Please edit it for me. Many thanks.

Last Friday morning, Isaac was sleeping soundly. The alarm clock rang. He switched off the alarm and told himself that he would wake up five minutes later. When he finally woke up, he looked at the clock. It was 7 o’clock. He would be late for school.
He quickly brushed his teeth and changed into his school uniform and, with his school bag slung over his shoulder, rushed to the bus stop. He had no time for breakfast. Soon he saw the bus he had to take moving towards the bus stop. He ran quickly, but he missed the bus. So he decided to run to school, as his school is not far away. He was running for a short while when it started to rain. Poor Isaac! He was drenched all over. When he reached the school, he was scolded by his form teacher for being late.
Isaac had learnt a lesson. He decided that he would not go to bed late any more.

The grammar and spelling in the passage seem to be fine.

This probably does not matter for your paragraph, but I was taught in school that numbers ("7") should be written out ("seven") in formal writing. There is no real need to change it though, just a little trivia for you.

Just curious, are these passages meant to teach British or American English?

    It is for teaching BrE.

Thanks for your comments. By the way, are you an English teacher? I'm just curious.

I'm just enthusiastic about linguistics. I am a natural American English speaker, but I do know most of the British spellings and punctuation conventions. Somehow I missed the "Mr" thing though...all of my British professors use the American convention of adding the period, even though they spell words the British way.

As a non-native speaker of English, I depend on grammar and English usage books to improve my English. I've read over 80 such books, some of them twice or three times.

Your English professors spell Mr with a full stop because I observe that BrE is adopting a lot of AmE in respect of spelling. For example, formerly 'realise' was strictly the British way of spelling, but nowadays 'realize' is the preferred version. Are you aware of that?

    Best regards

Yes, I've noticed AmE invading the writing of my British friends the more they use the internet. I think it has to do with the general Americanization of the world, which saddens me, because I feel like we're destroying cultures in the process. :-\

I don't think it's got that far, but people do sprinkle z & s about in BrE.

If you refer to BrE dictionaries, you can't find 'realise' in some of them. If you do, the meaning is not given. Instead, you are asked to refer to 'realize'. One of them is the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary.
