    Question Take things personally

    Hello,

We had an argument at work and an american colleague told me 'You shouldn't be upset. I think you took things more personnally than you should. I don't think it was personal but you tend to take things personally'

Would you please explain to me what he meant by 'taking things personally' and that I 'tend to take things personally'?

    Thanks a lot

    Re: Take things personally

To take things personally is to think that something is directed at you when it might not be.

For example, "Please write that report again." If you were to take that personally, you might think that the person was saying that you don't do your job well enough, though in fact it might apply to anyone, not just you.

Hi....When someone tells you, "Hey, don't take things personally" it could mean one of the following:
    • This is general feedback and not meant only for you.
    • Don't allow what I telling you to affect you. It's just an input.
    • Don't be sensitive ! Don't "take things to heart" !
    Bye for now...
