    correct word and sentence

I was shocked to discover the amount of damages done to my belongings in the kitchen pots and pans used, dirty, and badly damaged with deep gash marks caused by sharp objects.

Should 'damage' be used instead of 'damages'? Can the sentence be improved upon?

    Re: correct word and sentence

My food cupboards were emptied over the holidays and (the) food kept in the freezer (went) missing despite beinglabelled.

Should 'the' and 'went' be inserted or are they unnecessary?

I would put both 'the' and 'went' but I don't understand what 'despite being labelled' has to do with it. I mean, labelled or not, it would have gone missing just the same, more so if it was labelled because who took it could at least know what he was taking!

"The" is not needed but 'went' can stay.
