    Is this sentence correct as written?

    I remember when he was the majority whip and they always spelt it Delay.

    In particular, I am interested in knowing if "spelt" is correct, or if "spelled" should be used instead, that is, is one more correct than the other?

    I am American, and we used the word 'spelled.' In British English, 'spelt' is correct.
