    Default Fridge/Refigerator

    Does anybody know the what the word is for when a shortened word has an added letter?
    Example : Refrigerator = fridge

    I don't know, Shrews, but I do know that fridge was originally the abbreviation for Frigidaire.
    I guess the letter d was added to keep the same sound.

    I think that's right, queenbu. All the "d" does (and the "e", whish isn't really derived from the original e) if preserve the /ʤ/ sound.
