    A slang term to describe a couple getting married is "they tied the knot." In this case, the writer is making a bit of a pun using "knot" instead of "not."

    I agree with Ouisch - it's a headline, so "knot" is a pun and a reference to the idiom.

    If you follow the link you will see that this is a headline and therefore a pun by the writer. Since the story is about a marriage between two people of different religeons, the usage of "knot" is correct.

    Newspaper is the formal and abit informal mood of communication but not slung. As far as the knot is concerne it is informal ....

    It is not a question of informal or formal. It is using the common sound [not] to make a pun. Headlines are not governed by formal rules.
