    Default "for" or "to"

Which word is better, "for" or "to"? Why?

A)The tool is important to me.
B)The tool is important for me.

I really don't want to answer you this way, but the truth is that I cannot explain a grammatical reason for it.

Perhaps someone else reading this can help out, please?

    A) The tool is important to me.
"important" is an adjective followed by the preposition "to"

"for" can be used to replace a subjunctive:
It is important that I go to school.
It is important for me to go to school.

or after an adjective when we use a to-infinitive:
It is important (for students) to keep on trying.
