    Default expedition vs exploration

Hi, I've got this exercise where I need to choose the correct option:
On........................ to the North Pole, the members of the group have to ensure a very high calorie intake.
    a. explorations b. exhibitions c. expeditions
Apparently, the correct answer is c. expeditions, so could somebody explain to me the difference between "explorations" and "expeditions"? Please?

    Default Re: expedition vs exploration

exploration - to travel for the purpose of discovery
expedition - a journey organized for a particular purpose

Exploration can be used in a context where the target hasn't been discovered yet, whilst expedition can be used almost in every context...

    Correct me if I wrong!
