    Default Rules for Question Mark

Somewhere I read that if you ask a question, to which you do not expect an answer, it is correct to use a period instead of a question mark.

    Is this correct?

If you are learning English, I suggest that you use a question mark after every question, whether you expect an answer or not. There may be other teachers here who disagree with me. Who cares?

    Thanks for your response.

Actually, I am not learning English; I am writing letters to "The Editor" of a magazine.

You never get too old to learn!
