    earnestly affected

---- affected by the recent eruption of the volcano, the inhabitants of the area have begun moving towards the safe parts of the country.

    A) Efficiently B) Earnestly C) Regularly D) Profoundly E) Eagerly

In the question above, the answer is thought to be D. However, some of us think "earnesly affected" is also possible as a correct answer. Is this right? Do we have two different correct answers?

    Thanks in advance.

    Re: earnestly affected

"earnest" = characterized by or proceeding from an intense and serious state of mind
"earnestly" = in a serious manner

I don't think you can apply this within the context of the sentence.
