    Companies pay money to players

Speaking to CNN-IBN's Editor-in-Chief Rajdeep Sardesai on Friday, BCCI President Sharad Pawar said, "We have got some complaints from some responsible people that there are some contracts of players with some companies based on how much time they spend on the crease, that if you spend more time on the wicket then you will get more money. If that is correct, then this affects the game."

This is what I understood from the above highlighted parts:
If players spend more time on the crease, the company will pay players more money.
    But now I wonder,
Why the companies paying money to the player?
What is the companies' advantage over it?
Please you help me on this.
