    Default correct word

The counsellors follow up with visits to the ex-prisoners' families / homes after their release.

Which noun should be used? Are there any errors in the sentence?

    Thanks.

No errors, and both nouns work. There are serveral meaning though. Will a given counsellor visit the ex-prisoner's family or the ex-prisoner's home? Or do the ex-prisoners live with their families?

Whoah, I am a bit surprised to see that CAsiopea is correct, since I asked my parents to find out the answer

Possibly, caved thinks we, the posters, are the same age as s/he is?

Of course Casiopea IS right (regardless of her age... ..not sure what that little exchange was about!) but..
I think "homes" is more likely as the counsellors are doing "home visits", a common practice with social agencies. They are probably checking in with the ex-prisoners and their (new) home environment, not checking in with the ex-prisoners' families.
    Again, just my two bits

I am not saying that Casiopea is wrong, But I am trying to say that the comment she made is not funny, and I am not pleased with that comment.
