    menaced passion

    Hi

Joseph Conrad again. Could someone explain the meaning of "menaced passion"?

"That brutality of feeling which he had known only when
charging the enemy, sabre in hand, amazed this man of forty, who did not
recognize in it the instinctive fury of his menaced passion."

    Re: menaced passion

I read it as his passion (for the girl) being threatened/menaced by his rival.
