    Stuck on "checkered"

Thank you Henry! A couple more questions...how do I get signed up on this site? Also...and more importantly...your explanation regarding "checkered"...is it based on your personal experience or is it technically accurate according to "reliable resources"...or both? I hope to not offend you with the question...just curious. ;0) Thanks again, JB

Henry's answer is consistent with the origin of the phrase and its dictionary definition. In this use "checkered" means having light and dark areas (like a checker board). The other responses you received were consistent with common usage.

    check·ered (chĕk'ərd)
    adj.
    Divided into squares.
Marked by light and dark patches; diversified in color.
Marked by great changes or shifts in fortune: a checkered career.

Sorry for being late to reply.

    As Mike and RonBee explained.
