    Which is correct?

    Hello

I'd like to ask about the word "open."

Would you look at the following sentences?
    1) Jane came at nine, when the gate was opened.
    2) Jane came at nine, when the gate was open.

Which is right, "opened" or "open"?

I'd be happy if I have a comment.
    Thank you.
    Lie.K. :)

The sentences say two different things. In the first one, when Jane arrived somebody opened the gate for her. In the second one, when Jane arrived the gate was standing open already.
