    Question Which part of speech is this?

    in the sentence "This is my cellphone" which part of speech is "my"?

    Possessive pronoun! My..., your..., his(her,its)..., our..., their... are the possessive pronouns

    And it is not a part of the speech, it is a function of a sentence..

    I can't agree here; some people call it a possessive adjective, while others say it is a determiner.

    Yes, so many people so many points of view. Anyway I think the role of possessive pronouns is mainly that of a determiner.

    To sum up all the great answers, every word has a form and a function. My is a possessive pronoun in form (that's its word class) and a possessive adjective in function (that's what it does in the sentence). Now, a possessive adjective determines, as in defines the noun it modifies, which makes it also a determiner in function.

    In short, you'd be right in saying that my is a possessive pronoun and a possessive adjective. One's its form, the other its function.
