    Question mark or full stop

    1. I was wondering if the 18" high comment refers to the back of the sofa or the seat.

    2. I was wondering if the 18" high comment refers to the back of the sofa or the seat?

Does the sentence have to end with a full stop or question mark?

    Thanks.

Re: Question mark or full stop

"I was wondering" is not a question, so end with a full stop.

    Another couple of examples:

    "I asked him a question."

"I asked him where he lived."

It depends on context. If it is a comment you use a full stop, but if it is a question you use a question mark.

Your sentence, in the absence of any context, looks like a comment and would have a full stop. A sentence such as

"I wonder if you could help me?"

is asking for help and would have a question mark.
