    Joining of sentences using 'despite'

There was a massive campaign. Not many people came to the school funfair.

    _____________________________ despite ________________.

Not many people came to the school funfair despite the fact that there was a massive campaign..

Is it possible to join the sentences without using the word 'fact'?

    Thanks in advance.

    Compare:

Not many people came to the school funfair. Despite that there was a massive campaign.

Not many people came to the school funfair despite the fact that there was a massive campaign
