Default Probably the wrong time of year but ...

I'm actually looking for the more common North American expression here.

Is "ski trip" more common than "skiing trip" or are both accepted as equally correct?

Eg. "He just got back from a ____________ trip".

    Thanks,
    Bill

The prepositions used in conjunction with "skiing trip" also have me in a bit of a muddle here.

We say "They were on a one-week skiing trip in Austria", but would "to" as well as "in" be passable in this instance?:

"They had just gotten home from a skiing trip ____the Alps."
