    gawnicus

Does anyone know what the word gawnicus mean?

I googled it and found out there was a definition of it in "Random house historical dictionary of American slang, vol.1"

    Does anyone have this dictionary?

    Thanks!

In the meantime, would you like to give the full context? it might be possible to identify its meaning from that.

    I found it!

Gawnicus, a fictitious word, manufactured in New England, and denoting a dolt, a simpleton, a fool —possibly an enlargement of gawney."

    Thanks!
