    cash in A for B

"The breweries were cashing in on the rediscovered
    taste for real ales."
    QUESTIONS:
    1. Did THE BREWERIES rediscover the taste for their beer?
    2. Is it different from real ales?
    3. Are the BREWERIES selling their false ale saying that
    they are real ales?
    4. What does 'rediscover' mean? Had they discovered it
before and have they discover the same thing again recently?
    Thank you.

    1. No. People in general rediscovered the taste for real ale.
    2. Is what different from real ales?
    3. Probably not "false" ale, but something that was similar to "real ales." You'll need a beer and ale drinker to answer this better.
    4. It means that people used to like real ales in the past. Then, they started drinking something else. Then they "rediscovered" real ales.
