    Similar words, similar meaning?

    I'm not sure when to use "relation" and "relationship". The last time I hesitated was when writing the following paragraph: "The results of the experiment suggest a close relation between the room temperature and the number of dead mice".

    So, using "relation" in this case would be wrong. If it can be explained with clear-cut examples I'd appreciate it.

    'relation' - as in:

    in relation to - in/with regard to, vis-a-vis

    Thought is freedom in relation to what one does.

    These should be assessed in relation to their meeting the goals.


    relationship - the condition of being related (to smth/smb)


    ...the relationship between matter and life.
    ...living in a healthy/loving relationship...
