    Cool Origin of pie-eyed

Where does the term pie-eyed come from? I know it can mean anything from drunk to confused to brain-overload but where does it originate? I read something about a pie being a printer's term for a mix up of letters or jumble of words etc. Could that be the link?

'Pie' did have that meaning, so the connection would be logical.
