    Default said vs. read referring to signs, letters, notes.

    I am having a difference of opinion re "The sign said we were entering Menasha property," vs. "The sign read we were entering Menasha property." I have not registered yet. Please answer EMAIL REMOVED - Send PM to This User Instead.

    I'd use 'said' there. I have heard 'read', but prefer the first.

    I would use "said" or "stated".
