what does it feel like - how does it feel

Is there a difference (in the meaning) between the two phrases "what does it feel like?" and "how does it feel?"? I think I've heard them both (together) in a song...
If they really do mean the same, how is it possible that you can express them in these two different ways? I mean, I was always taught not to confuse "what does he look like?" with "how does he look?" (or maybe "how is he?").

As a native speaker and teacher, I can't notice any appreciable difference in meaning between the two phrases.

What does it feel like/ to be on your own/ with no direction home/ a complete unknown... Sure, why not?
